Parent Resources
"My mother made me practice, and without her I wouldn't be a piano teacher today."
"One of my favorite childhood memories is going to concerts with my dad. I was inspired by great musicians,
and encouraged to keep working on my own skills. It also fostered the close relationship my dad and I have today."
I have heard these, and other quotes, many times, from professional musicians and educators. I see myself in them as well- I went through a stage at about age 7 where, if my mom had not supervised and supported my practice, I might not have continues with music lessons, despite my love for the piano and music in general. My own father used to take me to the Van Cliburn competition here in Ft Worth when I was a child,
and I discovered an inspiration then that has never left me.
I have heard music lessons for children described as a triangle between parent, teacher, and student- each has responsibilities, and each must do their part for music lessons to be as successful as possible. Parents can make or break their child's musical experience! Check out my blog posts below for some ideas for ways parents can support their student. Then, further down, I have posted some links to articles by other music teachers I respect
that I hope will prove beneficial and enlightening.
